Tutorial and 100 Ideas for Custom Messages in the Discord Economy
Most bots come with boring, generic text for /work, /hustle, and /crime. If you want your server to feel like a real community, you need flavor text that actually fits. This list of 100 ideas helps you ditch the defaults and start building a world your members actually want to interact with.
Setting up an economy bot is more than just picking a currency name; it’s about building a world. The flavor text you choose for your /work, /hustle, and /crime commands defines the entire "vibe" of your community. Whether your members are grinding in a corporate office, exploring a galaxy far away, or just trying to survive the wilderness, the right messages turn a simple numbers game into an immersive experience.
How to add custom messages to /work, /hustle and /crime?
ATTENTION
This guide assumes you already have the StartIT bot on your server.
If you’re getting started, check out our initial setup guide first.
It's simple! Visit StartIT Dashboard, go to Economy tab (1) and find command you want to edit, /work for example (2).

Now click the New custom response button and write something creative.

Now without further things to do, here are 100 ideas categorized by the "Vibe" of the server, ranging from everyday life to high-stakes adventure.

Be creative
You shouldn’t feel limited to these 100 examples. The best economy messages are usually "inside jokes" that only your specific community understands. If your server has a running gag about a specific member always being late, or a bot that constantly crashes, turn those moments into your custom messages!
Here are three quick ways to keep the creative momentum going:
Get ideas from people
Create a dedicated channel called #economy-suggestions and let your members write the messages for you. Not only does this save you work, but it also gives your community a sense of ownership over the "world" you’re building. You can even reward the users whose ideas get picked with a special "Author" role or a starting balance of your currency.
Use local references
Think about the specific activities your server does.
- If it’s a Gaming server: "You carried your team to victory in a 40-minute ranked match."
- If it’s a Study server: "You finally understood what the professor meant by 'The Great Vowel Shift'."
- If it’s a Movie server: "You managed to avoid spoilers for the biggest blockbuster of the year."
Customizing your economy is one of the easiest ways to move from "just another Discord server" to a unique digital home. Take these ideas, tweak the wording to match your members' slang, and watch as a simple bot command becomes the most active part of your community!
